...by train
Hitzacker has a small train station, where the train from Lüneburg stops. The journey takes about one hour and ten minutes. 

...by car from Hamburg 
From the west side of Hamburg take the A7/ E45 in the direction of Hannover/Bremen, go through the Hamburg-Südwest junction and take exit 36 in the direction of Lüneburg, Uelzen.

From the east side of Hamburg take the A1/ E22 going south. At the Maschener Kreuz junction follow the signs to Lüneburg or the A 250.

On Freeway A 250 continue on towards Lüneburg. The A 250 joins the B4 by-pass shortly before Lüneburg. Follow the B4 (do not turn into Lüneburg), in the direction of Dannenberg (B 216). The road goes by Dahlenburg, through Göhrde and on to Metzingen. Right after Metzingen, turn left towards Hitzacker.

...by car from Hannover
(1) Follow the A7 Autobahn in the direction of Hamburg. Exit at Soltau-Ost, following road 71 in the direction of Munster and then on to Uelzen. In Uelzen, take the B 191 in the direction of Dannenberg. In Pudripp (a few kilometers beyond Zernien) turn left toward Metzingen. Cross road 216 in Metzingen and follow the signs to Hitzacker.

(2) To travel country roads from Hannover, take the B3 to Celle, continuing on to Uelzen on the B 191 in the direction of Dannenberg. Then follow the directions given above.

...by car from Berlin
Take the A 24 Autobahn in the direction of Hamburg. Exit at Neustadt-Glewe. Follow the B 191 via Ludwigslust to Dannenberg. In Dannenberg, take road 216 in the direction of Lüneburg. Right before Metzingen, turn right to Hitzacker.
