Oliver Wille – violin

Oliver Wille was born in Berlin in 1975 and began playing the violin at the age of five. He studied at the conservatories in Berlin and Cologne, Indiana University Bloomington and the New England Conservatory in Boston, among others. His teachers included Eberhard Feltz, Christoph Poppen, Mauricio Fuks, Ulf Wallin and Michelle Auclair.
Together with Jana Kuss, the then 14-year-old was one of the founding members of the Kuss Quartet. Oliver Wille regularly moderates discussion concerts, designs new concert formats, leads workshops and moderations, e.g. at the Heidelberger Frühling, writes program booklets and CD booklets.

Since October 2011, Oliver Wille has been a professor of chamber music at the Hanover University of Music, where he teaches an international quartet class. The university's own institute is doing pioneering work in the field of chamber music education through its creative and innovative projects. He holds a guest professorship as International Chair in Violin and as head of a new quartet academy at the Royal Birmingham Conservatory, England. He previously worked at the Karlsruhe University of Music and taught the Graduate Quartet Program at the Basel Music Academy together with Walter Levin.

In 2013, he once again substituted for Prof. Mauricio Fuks at Indiana University. Since 2013 he has led an annual quartet master class at the International Concert Work Weeks in Goslar and was artistic director of the International Summer Academy of Lower Saxony at Frenswegen Monastery for three years. He regularly gives courses at ProQuartet in Paris.

Oliver Wille has played in orchestras such as the Deutsche Oper, the Konzerthausorchester Berlin, the Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra and with the Camerata Bern and the Mahler Chamber Orchestra, traveling with conductors such as Christian Thielemann, Claudio Abbado, Daniel Harding and Andris Nelson.

In 2011, he took over the artistic direction of the chamber music series in Hanover, and from 2014 to 2016 he curated a quartet festival “quartetaffairs” in the new hall of Frankfurt's Holzhausenschlösschen.

Oliver Wille has been the artistic director of the Hitzacker Summer Music Days since 2016. He has chaired the Board of Trustees of the Karl Klingler Foundation since 2018. The Presidium of the German Music Council has also appointed him Chairman of the Advisory Board and the Overall Jury of the German Music Competition. Together with Antje Weithaas, Oliver Wille has also taken over the artistic direction of the International Joseph Joachim Violin Competition Hanover from 2021.
