Amateur singers and hobby musicians, be they soloists or ensembles, travelers or locals – they can all participate in the Sommer Music Festival. With the support of Festival artists, they will be rehearsing the final chorus of Georg Friedrich Handel’s “Messiah”; the public performance is on Saturday, August 3rd at 11 a.m. at the St. Johannis Kirche in Hitzacker. Admission to all rehearsals is free.

This work will be the central but not sole focus of our popular “Everyman’s Choir”, which meets (almost) every day. Choir Director Alexander Lüken introduces works that don’t overtax amateurs, but enrich their artistic experience. Even if you decide not to sing along at the “Everyman’s Handel” performance, you’re welcome to join the choir sessions on a spontaneous basis. Everyman’s Choir sings from July 29th – August 2nd, from 9:09 – 10:10 a.m. at the St. Johannis Kirche in Hitzacker.

If your hobby involves a musical instrument, we invite you to participate in the performance and join the rehearsals that the Festival will be organizing. Even if your instrument is not included in Handel’s original score – you’re very welcome! So if you play the accordion or the saxophone or ... whatever … and you’d like to join us, please do get in touch!

Festival artists’ classes: Aside from the Everyman’s Handel project, amateur musicians can sign up for instruction with Festival artists. The classes will take place from July 29th – August 2nd. The 60-minute sessions will be scheduled depending on the number of interested participants. Participants choose the pieces they want to work on.
Price (Euros per hour): Solo instruction 40,–; Duet, Trio, Quartet 60,–; Quintet and beyond 75,–.

Particularly experienced singers can sign up for a vocal ensemble that will join Alexander Lüken to work on more ambitious a cappella pieces. Sessions of one hour every day from July 29th – August 2nd. Total cost in Euros ( for 5 days): 50,– / per person, members of the Society of Friends of the Summer Festival get in free.
