The legendary violinist and viola player Karl Klingler (1879–1971) was a member of the Joachim Quartet and his own Klingler Quartet, concert master of the Berlin Philharmonic, a composer and a teacher. To celebrate his 100th birthday, the Karl Klingler Foundation was created with the purpose of supporting young string quartet ensembles. On the occasion of the Foundation’s 40th anniversary, members of the board of trustees, of which Oliver Wille is the chairman, each nominated a quartet to perform at the Summer Music Festival (6 p.m. and 8:30 p.m.)
