It's fair to say that connoisseurs of the art of the string quartet make pilgrimages to the Cuarteto Casals' concerts. The prize-winning ensemble was founded in 1997 at the Reina Sofía Conservatory in Madrid and has performed at the world's most renowned concert halls for the last 25 years. Their remarkable library of some 15 CDs is released exclusively by harmonia mundi. Their repertoire ranges from less well-known Spanish composers such as Arriago and Toldrá to the Viennese Classicists Mozart, Haydn, Beethoven, Schubert and Brahms up to giants of the 20th century such as Debussy, Ravel and Zemlinsky. In this concert, Mozart's famous G major quartet will be performed in context with Bach and Gubaidulina. The latter was presented with a composition prize at the 1992 Hitzacker Summer Festival.
