30 years later, the plains of Lower Saxony’s Elbe Valley remind us of the inhuman division of East and West just as the remains of the Berlin Wall do. A chamber music pilgrimage to distinctive sites in our region captures the sound of the river that was the border, as boundless New Music transports us beyond the painful memories. Noted composers who reside in the area contribute world premiere performances to four short concerts.

Works by Weinberg and Beethoven

The most important chamber musician of the 20th and 21st centuries? Gidon Kremer’s name comes to mind immediately. A great violinist, he is a unique, interactive partner in any exacting interpretative dialogue. Joined by the Russian concert pianist Yulianna Avdeeva and the Latvian cellist Giedre Dirvanauskaite from the Kremarata Baltica, Kremer goes boundless to the unrecognized masterpieces of Shostokovich’s good friend Mieczysław Weinberg.
