Wolf-Dieter Seiffert – musicologist

Wolf-Dieter Seiffert, born in Frankfurt/Main, completed his doctorate in musicology in 1990 with a thesis on “Mozart's early string quartets” at the LMU Munich. From 2000 to 2023 he was head of the G. Henle publishing house, before that chief editor from 1990. He has also held several honorary posts, including many years as Secretary and then President of RISM (Internationales Quellenlexikon der Musik) and two terms as Chairman of the University Council of the Munich University of Music.

Seiffert publishes books, essays and scholarly Urtext editions, primarily on Mozart's instrumental works. His activities are rounded off by worldwide academic lectures (Europe, USA, Asia) and regular public concert introductions at many music festivals (including Schubertiade Hohenems, Mozartwoche Salzburg, master classes Crans Montana, Kronberg Academy, Schloss Elmau, Klangwelt Klassik Icking, Sommerliche Musiktage Hitzacker). He is currently writing a novel about Domenico Scarlatti.
